The post Lil Yachty Album ” Teenage Emotions ” Review – Video appeared first on Beats By Jay Johnson - R&B, Rap, Trap, Pop.
]]>Whether you like Lil Yachty music or not, what you can’t deny is this guy has become very popular in this generation; Yachty was even able to land a Target commercial earlier this year! Either way you slice it though, Yachty is truly carving his own lane and appears to be taking all the criticism in stride. His debut album, Teenage Emotions, was highly anticipated for a slew of reasons but most of all to see how the 19-year-old would work within the parameters of all the hate. Lil Yachty shows on this album is that he’s just having fun with music, even though he’s all over the place with his lyrical content, the production is pretty solid. I think Teenage Emotions is just about 8 songs short of being a good album, its not horrible but its not good either. There are hot beats on the album, but direction of most songs are confusing and effortless. The best song on the album to me was ” Better”
Lyrics like this leave you like WTF? ” “She get wet, and she suck my dick like an insect/She my step sister, so I guess that’s incest”

]]>The post R&B Beats For Sale – Why 90’s R&B Music is better than today’s music. appeared first on Beats By Jay Johnson - R&B, Rap, Trap, Pop.

Unless you are living on another planet, I’m sure you or someone close to you have made the statement, ” Music is just not what it used to be “. Most producers have a catalog of R&B beats for sale but not enough songs with relevant content. Don’t get me wrong Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Jeremih, etc are some great artist and they have hit songs to prove their mark on R&B, but the 90’s music was full of raw emotions and story telling.
R&B music in the 90’s was emotional; the artist wasn’t afraid to show how they truly feel about their situation. Not only did they have dope R&B beats, but the lyrics captivated you and helped you through life’s ups and downs. Check out the 90’s song by Carl Thomas, ” I Wish” .
Carl’s lyrics took you down memory lane in this song, showing how he bumps into his childhood crush later in life and finding out she’s now unhappily married with kids. Today’s music would glorify taking another man’s woman, but in Carl’s song he was in pain because he knew she was married and they could never be together. You don’t see this type of “keeping it real” too much in our R&B music today. It’s hard to find the intense sentiment we had in 90’s R&B music, such as the song by Uncle Sam, ” I Don’t Ever Want To See You Again”
Back in the 90’s there was no such thing as the DM, they wrote love letters and lyrics straight from the heart. Today, I don’t think you will find too many R&B artist writing songs about being cheated on, the pride and ego will not let it happen for most. Real R&B music is all about being vulnerable and letting your emotions hang on your sleeve. As a producer, I love creating R&B beats, but I would rather those beats turn into the beautiful songs such as we heard from the 90’s era. We need more songs about true love rather than about porn and hot noise. When you heard certain R&B music it made you feel good about being with the person you love, such as ” They Don’t Know ” by Jon B.
I’m not going to say that 90’s R&B didn’t have some erotic music or sex driven songs, what I’m saying is sex wasn’t always the focal point as it is in today’s R&B music. Artist such as Joe and Maxwell were able to write clever lyrics to express their sexual desire for a woman respectfully. A lot of the R&B lyrics today can be quite vulgar and disrespectful, but the music has become so one-dimensional that some women accept the disrespect as flattery. I’m not totally against all R&B music today, I’m just saying we still need that soul touching heartfelt music that can make you cry and fall in love at the same time.
Here is a list of some of my favorite 90’s R&B songs

Might as well get the easy one out of the way first.
Once you’ve started booking shows or tours, you need to announce them to your fans and the world! There are many places where bands can promote their shows for people to find, such as in blogging communities or through PR reps, but you’ll make it difficult for people to discover your shows if you’re not on these platforms:
Bandsintown – This is one of the easiest tools to integrate with Facebook and build a strong standalone community through its app. Bonus: You can be recommended to others by listing your influences.
Songkick – Although it’s very similar to Bandsintown, it’s hard to make a case for one over the other – so upload your shows to both.
Social media is obviously one of the most important resources bands have today. It’s a way to share information about shows, connect with fans, and promote your brand. Even though there are many platforms, that doesn’t mean you should waste energy focusing on them all.
Here are the key platforms you need to use:
Facebook – Share updates, tour dates, relevant links, and more.
Twitter – Post shorter updates, and interact with both fans and bands.
Instagram – Pictures and videos are the way into your world, so show them to your fans.
Snapchat – Take pictures and videos to the next level and connect to your fans individually.
Speaking of staying in touch with your audience, if you don’t want to send individual emails from your personal email account, you’re going to need some help. There are plenty of services to help with mass emails, but these three are easy on the wallet and will keep you organized as you continue to grow:
Mailchimp – This is a super easy platform to use, and the price is just right when you’re starting out (i.e. free).
Constant Contact – Offers many of the same tools as Mailchimp, but can integrate with social media. It provides event and survey tools as well.
Topspin – A premier platform made for musicians, Topspin helps with leveraging your database of fans and connecting them to your online store.
What good is communicating to a mass audience if you don’t have anything to offer them? You need to be able to sell your products, and, lucky for you, there are a few options to help do that:
Topspin – There’s that platform again. Not only does Topspin allow you to email your fans, but it’s also a full-blown online music store, complete with all of your music and merch, ready for you to sell through easily integratable widgets that you can send out or set up on your site.
Bandcamp – One of the most indie-friendly sites out there, Bandcamp is a great way to set up your own store. They don’t even start messing around with profit-sharing until it actually matters.
SoundCloud – The premier combination of social media and music streaming, Soundcloud not only allows you to sell your music, but also message and interact with fans who are digging your songs. Couple that with adding your tour dates and website info, and it’s an all-around win.
A lot of music streaming and sales platforms will offer you publishing deals where they can pitch your music to appropriate opportunities. The main goal, however, is to get on the major streaming and sales distribution platforms through bundle packages they offer.
CD Baby – For a yearly fee, immediately gain access to all major streaming and sales sites, as well as physical distribution (if you want CDs or vinyl these days).
TuneCore – Though very similar to CD Baby, TuneCore also offers publishing and licensing opportunities.
Songtrust – Performing rights and royalties can get messy. Take a look into this platform to let someone else worry about them, so you can work on that pentatonic scale.
